In 1968, former Utica Mutual President Victor T. Ehre saw the need for a community effort in the Utica, N.Y. area to help send low-income kids to summer camp.
The Utica newspapers at the time agreed to sponsor the initiative, and "Operation Sunshine" was born.
The community's donations were so generous that first summer that the papers decided to hold a winter campaign as well.
Today, Operation Sunshine and the Observer-Dispatch continue to conduct two annual campaigns each year to help the less fortunate in our community. Donations from community members like you really can make a difference in the lives of local children. So please, give today.
